3 Value Bombs

1) Try to dominate a niche like a laser beam. Don’t try to take on the elephants; be the best in the world in one small niche and that’s how you win.

2) Technologies are actually really complex for a lot of individuals. We need to make technology easy.

3) To make your idea successful, it has to solve a problem. You have to have a purpose.

[1:16] – Colin shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.

  • Ideas are worthless. It’s not ideas that are worth anything. It’s acting on those ideas that are worth a lot.

[2:54] – What makes a startup successful?

  • To make your idea successful, it has to solve a problem. You have to have a purpose. And the purpose isn’t getting rich. A purpose is something that you believe in. It’s something you can love.
  • You need to be able to build a moat around your business.
  • You also need an idea that catches a wave. In the 2020’s, that wave is AI.

[6:09] – Capitalizing on a tech wave like AI.

  • When you’re in a tornado, you need to be able to deliver your technology the fastest.
  • Technologies are actually really complex for a lot of individuals. We need to make technology easy.
  • Try to dominate a niche like a laser beam. Don’t try to take on the elephants; be the best in the world in one small niche and that’s how you win.

[11:54] –  Start. Scale. Exit. …Take some money off the table, and: Repeat.

  • How do we maximize value, and should we exit?
  • When you begin to see the signs of froth in the market, that’s when we say “exit stage left”.
  • Sell to a strategic buyer and avoid the cash flow buyers, especially in today’s environment with very high interest rates.

[14:48] – What are serial entrepreneurs doing right that we can model?

  • It’s all about having a great story, great people, great systems, and raising enough money for your startup.
  • Most businesses in this country fail to scale, and the number one reason is the entrepreneurs running those companies are the ones in the way. It’s their ego.
  • If you can figure out your X Factor, you can dominate that space.

[18:06] – Colin’s key takeaway and call to action.
