Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: Beyond Distinction: How Entrepreneurs Transcend Marketplace Turbulence
[1:34] – Scott shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- He has a problem with people who say ‘follow your passion’. Passion is critical for success but there are people he knows that are passionate but has no discipline. In business, its not just passion because sometimes you develop the passion for it the more successful you become.
[3:23] – Scotts talks about why it’s no longer “change”–it’s turbulence in today’s world.
- Change is getting from point A to point B and sometimes it is a lot more predictable but turbulence is it can come from anywhere and is unexpected. That is where we are now in business.
[4:23] – Scott tells why turbulence calls for an elevated type of entrepreneurial thinking.
- The game, speed and direction in business has changed so much. The nature of disruption has happened and you don’t know where its coming from. Who would have thought that Apple will be in finance and payments, Netflix developing video games and Amazon in cloud storage.
- Beyond distinction is transcending the turbulence that is in the market place. Its critical to be clear of who we are and who we are not.
- We need to have visionary clarity that defines what we can become at our highest potential.
- Having a strategic compass is a way to provide direction amidst the turbulence. Our values should still be the north star and that is not going to change.
[7:50] – Scott tells why “Standing out” is no longer enough and that we need to move BEYOND DISTINCTION.
- It means that we don’t only have to think about standing out but on how do we transcend this turbulence of tomorrow. Its having clarity that is visionary.
- Create adaptive creativity. As entrepreneurs, we need to constantly innovate.
- Most innovations are reactive than proactive. We need to have continuous innovation and to align our vision on what we do and keep looking forward as opposed to just responding on what’s happening in the market place.
- Visionary clarity incorporate creativity and innovation as a constant part of what we do than just to keep up with our competition or react to market change.

[12:09] – Scott tells AI is changing everything but he believes that the human factor is the essential key to unlock entrepreneurial success.
- The key is human factor no matter what new technology comes. There will always be continuous technological innovation but the human touch which is how we tell the story that transform communication in a personal level is very important.
- A visionary entrepreneur is going to use AI to scale and give people more time to be close to their customers
[13:30] – Scott talks about Visionary Clarity, Adaptive Creativity, Transformative Communication, and ProactiveCustomer Experiences.
- We ignore customers so well. Now we can think like them and anticipate their needs.
- Think more like the customers . Help them tell their story in the market place. An example is the Fairmont Hotel who asked their customers what they looked forward to when they go home. It created an experience that not only serve the customer in the time they are staying in the hotel but also something for them in the future.
[17:03] – Scott shares why he believe the quote “what gets measured gets managed” is no longer relevant and why he prefer “what gets measured with insight and intention gets transformed.
- In management and leadership, what gets measured gets managed but what gets managed isn’t necessarily transcendent, it doesn’t take you beyond distinction, embrace the journey and define the future rather than just participating.
- Bringing that human element into the data and the information is what is going to connect not only to customers but also to your team.
- Its so hard to find good people and once you find them, its so hard to keep them.
- To do this altogether we need a clear vision for the future, constantly innovate the depth of telling your story and proactively thinking how we can serve our customers needs because people get engage by that.
- Think not only of your external customers but also your internal ones and that is your team.
- People have different tastes, embrace and appreciate the differences and uniqueness of everyone.

- The future is going to be long not to those who adapt and respond or even to those who stand out. Its going to be for those who move beyond distinction and who thinks of what is going to be the best for the future and not just today. How can we transcend the future market place so that we set the standard rather than just responding to it.
