Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: Go for No: Mastering the Courage to Ask

[1:23] – Andrea shares something that she believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.

  • If you want to be really successful, you can’t just be willing to fail, you’ve got to want to fail. If you have not heard the word ‘no’, then you are not doing it right.

[2:17] –  Andrea talks about how rejection can lead to massive success.

  • Look at the people who become super successful and look back at their story and you will find that behind the glitz and glamour that we see in the surface is somebody who has failed and has heard ‘no’ a lot.
  • Failure can lead to  success. If you want to succeed faster, you should be willing and wanting to fail faster. Failure is a pre-requisite to success.
  • The entire premise of Go for No was built on that premise. The problem is we are all biologically wired not to fail and not to be rejected and it comes down to a fight to fignt our biology. That means not only to change our thinking but to also hack around the physiology that if you get that butterflies or the sick stomach, you’ve got to recognize it and you’ve got to move on.

[3:43] – Andrea talks about how to get started in embracing No.

  • It all starts with your mindset. Instead of thinking No as the end or interpreting it as what you did wrong, you have to interpret it in a different way.
  • Whne you get No, your brain asks the question ‘what does this mean?” and as soon as the brain ask this, you go to work answering it and the answer you usually tell your brain is “yes, this is over” or “this didn’t go the way we want it.”
  • You got to change your brain interpretation or your thought process by saying that you didn’t do anything wrong and that it is part of the process and part of that failure that you need to experience and then immediately move to the next step which is what to do about it, what’s next and how can you learn from it.
  • Each and every No has a tremendous value that you need to see.

[6:24] – Andrea gives a real world example.

  • They struggled for a year with their book “Go for No”. They had difficulty to get the word our of the book and that was pre-Amazon time. They got a lucky break with a book agent who showed their book to a big publisher in New York who ntold them they will publish their book. After one week of waiting for the offer analysis , it didn’t come  and they learned from the agent that the publisher decided to pull the plug because they think their book will not be able to sell 5000 copies.
  • They realized in that moment that if they want to be successful they have to do it themselves without anyone’s help. With their audio book and translations they hit the 1 million copy mark which was totally self-published besides Amazon.

[13:17] – Andrea talks about standing out in competition.

  • There’s a lot of competition that is why people get scared to get started on what they do or how to rise above the noise.
  • Being bold and willing to take a No is the great equalizer. It means you may not have connections or you may not be the most talented but you know that you just need to stick with it and get the word out as fast as you can and get a No.
  • Go for No is the great equalizer because if people are not opening doors for you then you have to be creative and find your way around. It doesn’t require you to be bold, it just requires you to take risks. When you are wiling to fail, that’s when the breakthroughs happen.

[16:38] – Andrea talks about where big wins in life come from.

  • Big wins come from going after big things. Easy yesses lead to little successes. If you want to get a big win, instead of going after easy yesses, go after a big No.
  • They created the 21 day Go for No Challenge where everyday you get 1 big No and when you get a Yes, it will be a game changer or it could be one person who has all the connections.
  • The idea that there are big No’s out there but you don’t execute them because you think you are too pushy or aggressive. If you feel it that way then you have to say it up front and be transparent because you have nothing to lose.

[21:25] – Call to action.
