Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: The Future of Content Writing in the AI Era with Beth Hayden
[1:13] – Beth shares something she believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- She believes entrepreneurs do not have to conform to a specific mold. It is OK to think and act differently.
[2:12] – Beth shares her belief that AI won’t replace human writers.
- She is a content writer, creating blog posts, white papers, emails, and case studies mainly for technology companies.
- She is not worried that chat GPT or similar tools will take her job; instead, she embraces them.
- She believes these AI tools can help generate ideas and initial drafts, but human input is essential for refining the content, including style, grammar, and fact-checking.
- Entrepreneurs should avoid sounding robotic and producing generic content. While AI tools are excellent, they still lack the human touch required for effective editing.
[3:33] – Beth shares her thoughts about AI being very helpful in generating ideas and “starting points,” but the output still needs human refinement for nuance, style, grammar, and fact-checking.
- She uses AI tools in various ways beyond text generation. She relies on them for brainstorming topic ideas, creating interview questions, outlining content, and analyzing interview transcripts for themes.
- AI helps her explain complex subjects in more straightforward terms and keeps her focused when feeling hyper. It also allows her to generate initial drafts for content, which she then refines extensively.
- Beth emphasizes the importance of fact-checking AI-generated content due to its potential inaccuracies. Despite their limitations, she finds AI tools fun and uses them daily for her work.
[7:12] – Beth discusses prompt engineering and gives tips to get better content from AI.
- Prompt engineering involves crafting high-quality questions or requests for chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude to generate meaningful responses.
- To excel, you need practice and a willingness to experiment.
- Be specific in your prompts, providing detailed instructions on what you want to convey and the tone you prefer—formal, conversational, or humorous. Context is vital; explain your goals, audience, and their concerns thoroughly.
- Iterate on the output, refining or requesting new responses based on your needs.
- Check for biases in both the output and your prompts, and instruct the AI to use precise language, break down concepts, and explain ideas as if to a child, which benefits all readers, including those who are neurodivergent.

[13:44] – What is the future role of writers in the AI world?
- Beth believes writers should embrace AI tools because they will become more prevalent in the industry.
- Writers must become creative strategists, focusing on high-level vision rather than content creation.
- AI can execute plans but can not create them. Writers will become prompt engineers, ensuring quality control, giving feedback to improve content, and considering ethics and bias.
- AI will automate repetitive tasks and help manage teams using these tools, shifting towards an overseeing role in content creation and strategy.
[16:18] – Beth discusses her collaboration with AI to create better and faster content.
- For one of her clients, she often extracts content from interviews she conducts with founders. She sometimes uses Chat GPT to help create outlines for blog posts based on the transcripts.
- After generating an outline, she reviews each section, pulling out essential parts from the transcript. Since transcripts do not read like polished writing, she asked Chat GPT to turn the raw transcript text into more readable language.
- It also helps Beth brainstorm headlines, although she usually tweaks them to fit better. Once the draft is complete, she edits it thoroughly to ensure it sounds human, is accurate, and matches the company’s tone.
- This process helps her refine the content effectively.
[18:16] – Beth gives her takeaway.
- AI tools are potent, but some writers fear them taking over. However, our roles as content creators are evolving, and embracing these tools is essential to stay relevant. Do not let the fear hold you back. Instead, find ways to use AI ethically, ensuring your content remains original and high quality. Embracing AI is vital for entrepreneurs to stay competitive in today’s changing landscape.
