A supervisor once wrote she was “not officer material”; she refused to accept the label.
She fought her way to a Navy officer commission, becoming a 5’2’’ Mexican American female leader during a time women were not welcome on carriers.
After retiring, she became a community activist when her kids’ school lacked full-day kindergarten.
Advocacy success sparked her political path: demonstrate need, gather people, and make change happen.
