Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: The Power of Storytelling with Kindra Hall
[1:14] – Kindra shares something she believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- She believes that becoming successful is an ongoing process, and your pain in your entrepreneurial journey is not what defines your success or what will make you successful.
[5:02] – What makes storytelling so important?
- Storytelling is fundamentally what makes our species who we are today.
- It is how you pass the information along.
- Species nowadays can tell a story or share experiences that can be passed on to the next generations.
[6:10] – How can businesses use stories to improve their bottom line?
- Your business can go wrong if you focus too much on the business aspect of it.
- Remember you should connect with humans.
- Your story will differentiate you from others in a competitive marketplace. Use stories to humanize.
[7:39] – Kindra shares an example of using storytelling to succeed in business.
- AirBNB is who they are today because of the stories its founders chose to tell.
- The founders used to put air mattresses on their apartment floors and allow people to rent them because all the hotels were sold out.
- The match between the founder and the service they were marketing helped them get investors.
[8:52] – What are some of the most common storytelling mistakes?
- One of the most common storytelling mistakes is people trying to fit too much into a story.
- Instead of trying to fit your story into one landing page, focus on a particular a-ha moment and share that small story.
- Small stories have more power.

- 2 Challenges of Self-Storytelling:
-
- The process of self-storytelling has been automated for hundreds of thousands of years. The stories that happen in your mind happen automatically.
- These automatic stories are often negative.
[15:03] – How can we rewrite our negative self-stories to create positive ones?
- By keeping in mind that positive ones are also there.
- Ponder your positive stories – your success stories, the risks you have taken that paid off, and the challenges you have faced and conquered.
