Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: How to Coach Yourself into a Thriving Future
[1:23] – Simon shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- Failure is not final and failure is only feedback and feedback is the practice of champions.
[1:55] – Simon breaks down the 4 personality archetypes that are needed to thrive.
- The 4 personality archetypes are Hurry, Worry, Ready and Steady.
- Hurry – were always in a hurry but we have to slow down to the speed of the moment.
- Worry – often times has a negative connotation but is is actually an invitation to be proactive and to solve a problem.
- Ready is what you need to do to make it happen.
- Steady is understanding that calmness is your superpower.
[2:35] – Simon tells what is his favourite personality archtype and gives a real world example.
- Steady is his favourite personality archetype. Often times you hear the news that something is happening in the world and the moment you decide to get hold of the steering wheel of your emotions and drive into the future by not being controlled by the backseat passengers of fear and stress.
[3:44] – Simon talks about the 1 question we need to ask ourselves every 90 days.
- The question is “what difference that you can make in the life of another person or business?” This question is important because research says that every 90-100 days , the blood cells in our body are changed and who you will be 90 days from now will be a totally different person. According to research, when you help someone else, the reward centers in your brain begin to light up almost as if you are in the receiving end of the person you just helped or made a difference in their life – they call this the “Helpers High”
- If you can come back to this question every 90 days over the course of the year , you can say that 4 x you have a difference in someone’s life and it wasn’t about ME but its about WE.
[5:11] – Simon tells why thriving is more important than surviving.
- Thriving fuels your energy, surviving sometimes depletes your energy .
- Thriving allows you to show up in the intersection of pain, anxiety and discouragement to say how you are you going to change the channel in the ‘tell-a-vision’.
- If you choose to thrive, you are changing the channel because life and business is not a remote control.
- It snaps you out of just trying to get along and survive because surviving sometime is looking to the rear view mirror of what just happened but thriving is looking to the windshield of opportunity to say what can I do instead of what I can’t do.
- Research says by the time a child reach 17 years of age have heard the word ‘no’ 150,000 times and yes 500,000 times. The person who choose to thrive finds the yes in a no world.
[7:08] – Simon gives a real world example.
- He left his work in Disney and decided to write a book. He received 13 rejections from publishers in LA and New York . He had a choice to give up or to keep going. He choose to thrive instead of survive and keep pushing forward and sure enough his book was picked up by a publisher not because he was pushy but he just happened to be at the right place and at the right time.
- Remember that wherever you are right now, encouragement is the oxygen of the soul. Make the extra call , send the text , follow through because the fortune is in the follow up.

[11:44] – Simon talks about coaching ourselves or invest in being coached.
- You should coach yourself and there are three questions that are critically important that individuals should talk about when coaching themselves. First, what do you want with you? Write in your journal and ask yourself ‘what do I want from me’? This is the cognitive question.
- The second question is ‘what are you feeling about what you want?’ This is the emotional question that truly invites you to look at how you are emotionally doing.
- Third question is ‘what step are you willing to take to get what you want. This is the behavioural question.
- These are the questions he invites us to consider when coaching yourself.
- Invest in coaches because it cuts down your learning curve for coaches connect the dots for you.
[14:38] – Simon talks about the results of thriving.
- The result of thriving is you become the gift that keeps on giving because you generate opportunities for others.
- This is called the network effect, you impact society because you become a role model and you decide to lead and not just settling in the status quo. You decide that average is over. You decide to show up and said yes to be a problem solver.
- You have fortitude – which comes from the word ‘fortes’ where the word fortify is derived. Fortify means courage under fire. When you have that fortitude, you become the beacon that people will say ‘if they can, I can’. You transform your narrative because you understand how to embrace your story and the result is other people begin to up their game in their story or narrative because you decided to thrive.
[16:01] – Simon talks about the acronym G.I.F.T.
- G- generate opportunities for others
- I – impact society
- F – focus on fortitude
- T – transform through narrative
[16:17] – Simon talks about ‘Focus on fortitude’
- Fortitude is the new attitude because when you have fortitude, you focus on what’s going well instead of what’s wrong.
- Park, start, accelerate. Park what are the behaviour or habits that you need to park because its not working. Start the things that you need to be doing. Accelerate what is working well or where is your brilliance really happening and how to do more of what is working that builds fortitude because you have courage in the midst of the storm.
[18:50] – Simon talks about micropractice for others.
- When you become focus on others you are shifting from here I am to there you are. Start with the question ‘what do you want for you?’ What it does is it honors the person in the moment, and make them feel seen, valued and understood. That single micropractice can really unlock a person to thrive rather than just survive.
[19:52] – Simon gives his final take away.
- Schedule a 15 minute appointment with yourself every single and break it down to three 5 minute segment. First 5 minutes – meditate and get quiet, the second 5 minutes read or listen to something that inspires you and the last 5 minutes stretch and get in with the day because that 15 minutes a day creates 7 days and 7 days create 30 days and 30 days create 90 days.
