Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: How Years of Professional Skiing Provided the Mindset Needed for this Competitive Housing Market
[1:00] – Pre Roll Sponsors
[1:25] – Athena shares something that she believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- People think of success as this grand moment in our lives. Success comes from small moments done habitually.
[3:09] – Athena’s journey to finding success in non-traditional ways.
- Life never really goes the way that you think it’s going to go.
- All of the little moments and things that we think will create the person we are usually don’t go to plan. It’s all about our ability to pivot.
- The small habitual moments that we do over and over again are the things that stick with us and become part of us naturally.
[6:06] – The reason why Athena chose real estate.
- She used to joke that there were more real estate offices than there were t-shirt shops. She said that as a cliché never thinking that she’d go into real estate.
- Real estate, for her, encompasses everything she wants in life. She loves homes, interior design, and being her own boss. Those are elements of what being a real estate broker is.

[13:17] – Why would clients want to work with you in a market saturated with agents?
- Know the ins and outs of your client’s lives to the extent of what they want to share – to the point where you feel that you can be the trusted advisor for them in making some of the biggest purchases/sales of their entire lives.
- Real estate can be very transactional: get the commission, go on, and get to the next client.
- Create an experience and build a life-long relationship with clients.
[17:46] – Athena’s favorite success since becoming an agent.
- Two years ago, one of her older sister’s and her family came to her with a very unique request for a property she was able to help them find
- A couple had just been offered a job out of the country and had just finished redoing the entire interior of a property that was built in 1890s. It was all brick. They redid the entire inside of the property to make it modern while keeping the classic elements.
[21:30] – Tips for pursuing non-traditional careers.
- When you are in any athletic endeavor, you have a coach or a teacher watching how you are doing in every movement. They can see from above your blind spots and help you with what needs to be done in order to get there.
- Mentorship needs to be brought back in how we learn and develop skills in life.
- Coaching and mentorship is the greatest gift you can give yourself to be successful.
- Find someone you trust and admire, and who will call you out if you’re not doing the right thing. At the end of the day, you don’t need to hear everything that you’re doing right. You need to hear where your weaknesses are.
[25:14] – Athena’s key takeaway and call to action.
- Life does not always go to plan. The plan you’ve set for yourself is generally not the path that’s going to be laid out. It’s the ability to pivot and grow from the opportunities that we often don’t think are going to be presented.
- The turns that life has in store for us are the greatest moments and are going to be formative in creating the people that we are.
