Today’s Audio MASTERCLASS: Million Dollar YouTube Ads
[1:22] – Jake shares something that he believes about becoming successful that most people disagree with.
- There is always something broken in your business and your life and that is okay. It’s a constant optimization process when there is something that is always broken and that is okay. Come in peace with it and just get really good at solving problems.
[3:19] – Jake shares his story of how YouTube Ads allowed him to quit his job, get his first clients and speak on stages across the nation.
- He had a day job 11 years years ago creating videos at a company and he listened to Fire Nation. He made a commitment and he got 3 clients on a 3-month retainer which is 3 levels of income and he wanted to quit his job and build the agency. The challenge was his wife was 8-months pregnant at that time but he thought as long as they have insurance, they can do it. They were the first company to use YouTube Ads. They spend $20 to get a customer that was worth $60 which was a 3:1 return and nobody is doing it and so he quit his job and build an agency around it. He made that commitment and practiced what he preached and created his own YouTube Ads.
- He created a free video marketing course that he could deliver for free and run the YouTube Ads in that offer. His email list started to grow and people were taking the free course and buy the paid one.
- Three months after he quit his job and turned the ads on, he got an email from Ryan Deiss, CEO of Digital Marketer who bought his course and invited him to speak on a summit – Traffic and Conversion which he did.
- You will never know who is watching your ads and for him , he had the right person at the right time. And that is what they are doing in the last 11 years, creating videos using YouTue Ads for people to grow their business.
[5:48] – Jake talks about why he believes advertising impacts all aspects of a business; Marketing, Sales, Operations, etc.
- The best thing to illustrate that something is always broken – they had a client who is a business coach helping women to start their business. She has a great program where people would sign up and she also had great testimonials. She needs more people to join and become aware of it so they created an awesome video and they launched it. A month after the launch, she had 300 people applying for that program. She had to bring on people to handle all the leads. They kept it going over a year and she had more applications and want to pause the ads so she can fix her sales system. She added two more people in her team and they put the ads back up again.

- Yes, its true that everyone skips YouTube ads but you don’t have to have millions of people click, you just need a small percentage of the right people for it to be effective.
- If the video is done right, it gets people’s attention. The most important part of the video is the hook which is the first 5-10 seconds of the video. Think of what you can say or show in the first 5 seconds that can make the audience curious or keep watching.
- Your product or service isn’t for everybody so if they skip it that is good because you don’t want to waste their time and waste your ad spend to people who are not interested.
- Once you get their attention, its about creating value. Ads go wrong if they talk all about their product or service. Great ads are all about the transformation that your product or service create for your customers or clients.
- People are on YouTube to be entertained or educated and when you can have an ad that can educate or add value to somebody and you can do it in an entertaining way, that is something.
- Get their attention, provide value, provide a solution to people’s challenges and call to action to have people to move to the next step to start that business relationship.

- Google owns YouTube and it is the largest search engine in the world. You can go a little deeper and target people based on their intent which is a little bit deeper than their interest. If someone is wanting to start a business, they will go to YouTube, Google knows what you are searching for and they can line up that ad based on what you are searching for to put your message right in front of that person when they need it the most. You can target based on what people are searching for in Google – its called Custom Intent Targeting when you build this out in the YouTube ads platform.
- Keyword Targeting or Custom Intent Targeting is one of the unique factors that make YouTube ads a valuable platform.
- When you have a big YouTube channel and the people who watched your video or subscribed to your channel over the last 540 days is a Remarketing.
